Governing the Fourth Constraint: Strategic Priorities vs Hard Project Constraints
Description

PMI's 2025 Project Success research reports, when projects link a clear vision to sustainability outcomes, their Net Project Success Score jumps by +90 points compared to projects with neither. Yet corporate sustainability commitment in most organizations is hardly demanded or accounted for in projects.

The result? Sustainability becomes the soft constraint that absorbs pressure from the hard constraints of scope, time and cost. When schedules slip or budgets tighten, sustainability commitments quietly erode. It matters little that the teams care when they lack decision rights, escalation paths, and accountability structures.

This session equips attendees across organization hierarchies for effective sustainability strategy-project integration. Drawing on PMI's Sustainability Reporting Guide for Projects and the M.O.R.E. framework, attendees will:

  • Learn to diagnose the dotted line between strategy and projects in their organizations
  • Initiate critical conversations with senior executives, sponsors and PMOs
  • Create/strengthen the strategy-project link for sustainability and other goals
  • Leave with a practical diagnostic and immediately actionable steps to activate sustainability integration
